I developed a personalized movie app as part of the Google UX Design Specialization Certificate program. This app allows users to write reviews and maintain a personal collection akin to a diary, but for movies. I've prepared a comprehensive case study for the project, and you can view the case study with this link
Project Overview
The Product
This app serves as a movie diary, allowing users to log the films they've watched, rate them, and jot down their thoughts. Additionally, users can explore public ratings and synopses for movies. It's designed for movie enthusiasts and those who want to remember what they've watched.
Project Duration
November 2022 - February 2023
The Problem:
An app that is really simple, clean, personal and quick to jot down movies
My Role:
UX designer designing an app for Popreview
The Goal:
Create an app for Popreview that enables users to easily and privately record their personal movie reviews
Responsibilities
Performing individual interviews, both digital and paper-based wireframing, developing low and high-fidelity prototypes, conducting usability assessments, ensuring accessibility, and continuously refining designs.
User research: summary
I conducted interviews and designed maps to gain insights into user needs. A primary user segment identified consists of adults seeking a straightforward, private app exclusively for their personal use, where they can share reviews without receiving negative feedback.

User research: pain points
1
Some adults and teenagers prefer a direct approach to writing or reading movie reviews
Time
2
The app provides the functionality to either listen to your review being read aloud or to dictate your review using your voice.
Accessibility
3
Text readability can be challenging in certain apps, hence, the text size is large here with the added option to increase it larger

Mock-ups
These initial designs played a pivotal role in tailoring the movie review app. Upon scrolling, you'll discover additional movies currently available. The vibrant colors breathe life into the interface without overwhelming the user experience.
Usability study: findings
I conducted two rounds of usability studies involving different users. Insights gathered from the initial study informed the refinement of wireframes into mockups. The second study utilized the high-fidelity prototype, highlighting areas within the mockups that required adjustments.
1
Users want an easy way to jot down the reviews
2
Users want it to look more fun looking
Round 1 findings
1
The way you add a movie is great and the search engine needs a bit more tweaking
2
Opening screen most look fun looking but love how simple it looks
Round 2 findings

For the movie review section, I've maintained a clean and intuitive design, staying true to the app's primary colors of blue and red. This ensures simplicity while aligning with the overall app aesthetic.
High-fidelity prototype
The final high-fidelity prototype showcases clear and crisp user flows for each screen, effectively meeting all user needs and facilitating smooth navigation.

Low-fidelity prototype
The low-fidelity prototype connects from the login/registration to the opening of the movies, than to add to your diary with your review

Accessibility considerations
1
Used icons to help make it easier for people to navigate
2
Have names under icons or next to them to help out older folks who don’t understand icons
3
Use clear and big descriptive imagery to help all users better understand the designs

Takeaways
Impact:
The Popreview app has significantly fulfilled user needs.
What I learned:
During the design process of the Popreview app, I discovered that conducting interviews and gathering feedback from users has been immensely beneficial.
